Odesa (the siege of)

Christiaan Bastiaansʼ practice centers around the concept of the "Hurt Models". The encounters with what Bastiaans calls "detached people" are the driving force of his artistic practice. He states:
"Due to a fatal entanglement of political, social, and economic factors on the world market, these wandering souls have become detached in a society that offers no safe haven. I have given them a name: Hurt Models. Literally: damaged people, in the broadest sense of the word. They are central to my work." Created October 2005 (Chad/Sudan border, Darfur)
